In the grand tradition of timeless celebrations, the 96th annual Bud Billiken Parade stands as a living testament to the enduring power of community, culture, and education. For nearly a century, this parade has been much more than a mere procession; it has been a beacon of empowerment and unity, igniting the start of a new school year and celebrating the dreams of our youth.

As the major fundraiser for the year-round programming of the Chicago Defender Charities, the Bud Billiken Parade fuels initiatives that serve the heart of our community—our children. From the distinguished VIP Breakfast to the thrilling 10 a.m. live broadcast on ABC7, this day is a celebration of legacy, joy, and progress. The parade’s nearly three-mile route, beginning at 39th and King Drive and culminating in the unforgettable Grand Finale at 51st and Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, is a dynamic display of music, dance, and unity. The festivities spill over into Washington Park for our grand Back-to-School Festival, where families come together for food, entertainment, and community.
